The Mississippi Forest Inventory (MFI) program is responsible for developing and implementing the statewide forest resource inventory, necessary for Mississippi’s sustainable forest-based economy. The MFI program also effectively distributes forest inventory-based information for economic development and policy purposes. For inventory purposes, the state is divided into five MFI regions, with each region being inventoried over a one-year period. In order to present an accurate picture of Mississippi’s forest resources, the statewide forest inventory operates on a continuous five-year cycle.
