The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) oversees the Wildland Fire Program to provide wildland fire protection equipment and supplies to Volunteer Fire Departments (VFDs) and Authorized Entities through cooperative agreements. This program was formerly administered by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA). However, the Wildland Fire Program transitioned to the oversight of the DLA effective May 1, 2014. Primary program objectives are to facilitate advanced procurement and assist in the standardization of wildland fire equipment and supplies.
More than 250 items are currently stocked under this program.
These items include:
- Water handling equipment and supplies
- Fire line tools
- Fire line shelters
- Protective clothing
